How do you put a day of mourning and reflection into movement? We tried this yesterday at my movement class. It was emotional and liberating to find movements that represented inward feelings on the themes of mourning, grief, Jerusalem, causeless hatred. As much as we considered our connections to our people and our history we also included songs of hope and rebuilding as we concluded the day.
Here is a playlist on the themes of Tisha B' Av. Thanks to The Forward for a great article with suggestions!
Includes Babylon by Don Mclean
Silent Eyes by Paul Simon
Donna Donna by Joan Baez
Wade in the Water by Ella Jenkins
How Blue Can You Get? by B. B. King
Ocean of Tears by Big Maybelle
Who Taught You How to Hate? by Disturbed
The Sound of Silence by Disturbed
Im Eshkachech by Gad Elbaz
Bina's Nigun by Joey Weisenberg and Hadar Ensemble
Near Light by Olafur Arnalds
Other songs that I would have added with more time:
For the hope that we have at the end of Tisha B'Av for the potential to grow.
